Scratches on the glass panels

Patio Door Glass FAQ

Question: We have just had new patio doors installed but have now noticed some scratches on the glass panels (not there before). There are a series of vertical scratches, some with little black bits in them. We got some work done to the house (wooden flooring, plastering, new kitchen)immediately after the doors went in. Could you suggest what might have caused the scratches?

  1. Dear Reader:
Sometimes it is hard to notice scratches on the surface of the glass until they are cleaned. If the scratches are outside of the pane in the panel that goes inside of the house than most likely something heavy was put on the surface or the glass was hit really with any object. I can’t think of any other explanation for the scratches. It could have happened before, during, or after the patio door glass installed.

How to remove the scratches on the glass? It might be possible to remove them if they are not really deep. Call a glass company or the person that installed your patio door to see if they can do anything.

Anytime you have someone doing some work for your home take a picture, video, or take a look around the area before and after so you can prove any damage to your windows.
