Mirrors

Who doesn’t like or have mirrors? We use them everyday when we take a shower in the morning. Some of us can’t live without mirrors and have

become a basic necessity. No matter why you need a mirror for, it is important to know more about them if you’re planning to buy one for your home or business.

I have installed big, small, and large mirrors and after the job is completed they look beautiful and make the room look much better than what it used to look before the mirrors. They must be handle with care when installing or cleaning them. Unless the mirror you want to buy is small or already comes with a frame, don’t try to do it yourself. Installing mirrors usually takes two installers for small to medium sizes and more than three for larger mirrors. Another thing to take into consideration is that mirrors could easily be damaged during the installation process and could cost you twice as much if you don’t have the right tools.

What to expect with new mirrors:

  • Mirrors usually have very very small scratch and you probably will not see them. So try to give the glass company a break because there is not much we can do.
  • Walls are usually not straight or smooth or the space is not square so it will not fit perfectly most of the time.
  • Make sure to seal the bottom edge to prevent water getting into the back of the mirror.
  • When cleaning them try to use soft paper towel or cloth that won’t scratch the glass.

For your safety and others:

  • Keep away from mirrors
  • Don’t allow children to play around any type of glass
  • Always check to see if the mirror is secure to the wall. Over the years the mirror mastic might not be able to hold the mirror in place and you you might have to call your glass provided again.

These are the most common characteristics of mirrors and you could add extra options to make it unique. The 1/8′ is usually used in frames. The 3/16″ and 1/4″ is used in bathrooms and for large sizes.

Thickness:

  • 1/8″
  • 3/16″
  • 1/4″

Mirrors Colors:

  • Clear
  • Bronze
  • Gray

Clear mirrors are the most popular with bronze or gray usually used for decoration purposes on large areas. You could order them with 1″ bevel and polish edges. Don’t forget that mirrors are very expensive and the more option you want to add will increase the price. My advice is to ask for the different options and see some examples before choosing any additional details. You can also choose to go with beveled mirror strips instead of asking for polished edges and bevel.

What is the maximum size of mirrors?

A glass company should be able to provide you with 72 X 144 clear mirror without much trouble and anything larger than that will be custom made. A 72″X144″ mirror is a pretty big mirror and only few people actually request something that big. I would suggest to divide a mirror wall into smaller size as much as you can because as I said already  they could are expensive to replace and for safety reasons.
