Single Pane Glass
Do you know what is a single pane glass? Many of us would know this answer right away, but few will not know the difference. Single pane was the only glass used many years ago and as a result of that many houses today don’t have insulated glass windows. This type of glass is often used in commercial buildings except in some cities where double pane must be used.
The most commonly used glass is clear with a thickness of 1/16″ to 1/8″ in residential homes. In business, the thickness of the glass is 1/4″ or 3/16″ and the color is clear, bronze, or gray. There are hundreds of glass colors to choose from and glass type is not far behind. But lets focus for just 1/16″ or 1/8″ clear regular glass.
It is important to know the type of glass you have that way you will not taken advantage of from shady glass companies. Most of the time the glass used for houses does not have any type coating and it is just plain clear regular glass. In several occasions have heard from customers that the previous glass shop wanted to charge more because his/her glass was not regular glass when in fact was the opposite. So get the right information and don’t’ take their word as fact.
For a professional glaziers replacing single pane glass is not much complicated and it seems that way for the average person. But I would suggest to find glass installer instead and save the trouble of doing it yourself. It is very easy to cut yourself and the glass could easy break while installing it.
But if you must do it yourself here is a video showing how to do it
As you can see from this video replacing glass takes a lot of steps and if you’re not handy with tools it is not going to look good after you finish. Also, getting the right materials and tools is not available from your local hardware store. I have replaced hundreds of single pane glass and each job is different. Again, make sure you have everything before starting any project that way you will able to finish the job completely.
For businesses with single pane glass a do it yourself is out the question. I strongly advice not to do it yourself and pay the professionals for this type of glass service
